Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited Uttarkhand's Kedarnath Shrine, a day after campaigning for the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls concluded, and was seen meditating in a cave. He will spend the night in the cave that has been constructed for devotees to meditate, officials said.

Earlier today, the prime minister covered himself in a saffron shroud as he began meditating in the cave, which roughly measures 10 feet by 6 feet. Dressed in a saffron-coloured robe, Modi was seen sitting in the cave cross-legged, his lips moving as he softly chanted mantras.

“He has been meditating throughout the afternoon, but all we know is that he will be leaving Kedarnath for the Badrinath shrine at 8:30 tomorrow (Sunday) morning, before which there’s a darshan scheduled at the Kedarnath shrine,” Ghildiyal said.

The dinner, he said, would be sent to the cave, which has electricity, a heater, a simple bed, mattress, a small bathing area, an attached toilet, and an electric geyser for hot water.

However, a large section of Twitter has mocked PM's meditation at the cave and called it a mere “photo-op.”
